Teams negotiate all the time…daily.
To increase the ability to have all people share their ideas and in turn increase the trust within the room.
The trust that, each person will share what they think and give their best ideas to solve the need and enter into the negotiation with the best interest of the customer, and organization…remove the BUT.
When the cynic in the room starts to tighten that doom loop of failure and you feel the teams spiraling tighter out of positive negotiations into “turf wars” and personal vendettas…remove the BUT.
When you, yourself, are mindful enough to know you are being an asshole…and setting the team off from the best interest of the customer and organization, to fulfill personal objectives and maintain the status quo you have grown to enjoy…remove the BUT.
… replace it with an AND.
