Team Building & Experiential Learning is not a “distraction” from the training BUT a part of the training. As long as you treat this as an ‘energizer’ it will be a silly game that you had us play.
If you treat this as an opportunity to connect the content (whatever it is) to an actual behavior change and how we get work done – you will be seen as a person who adds great value to the organization and made the training connect in the heads of the participants.
Organization Design is the foundation of the company and how you operate day to day to accomplish work. With pressure the foundational cracks become more apparent and enlarge. Leaving everyone to do the best they can while their work and capacity to improve the company is crumbling around them.
I was invited to spend the day with the Experiential Education Staff at New Directions Youth & Family Services.
Solution-Focused Customer Service Workshop
When someone calls something ‘part of our culture’ it is no longer open for discussion, even when the majority of people hate the behavior and know that this culture is broken.
Much of the modern day thinking on Organization Development, Team Building and Leadership stem from the work and research of Douglas McGregor.
There comes a point on every team when you have to decide, ‘do I keep fighting this fight & move to improve the whole team?’ Or ‘do I focus on myself & my work knowing that I’m doing the best I can & that is enough?’ … Not an easy choice and one that you must consider in order to stay mentally healthy & do your best work.
Breakthrough Improvements happen when we stop doing what we have been doing and a team of people discover better & new ways of working.
What would people be doing if they were not fearful? How will we know that fear is no longer an obstacle to progress?
The response was Trust.
